Toccoa River Estates

Toccoa River Estates

Blue RIdge, GA

The Toccoa River is a 93-mile long river that flows across the Appalachain Mountains, and the name “Toccoa” comes from the Cherokee term for “beautiful.” Toccoa River Estates seeks to connect people to nature and celebrate the beauty, flow and ecology of the Blue Ridge Mountains. eightvillage worked with developer, Big River Associates, to design multiple retreat structures along the Toccoa River. The design of the retreats utilize the existing ecology as the backdrop, celebrating the nature and region they are in. Living spaces that open up into large porches bring natural ventilation through the structures and connect the new buildings to the ecology of the place. Sleeping spaces, such as the “Treehouse”, consolidates these areas into a smaller footprint to not only preserve trees, but to also provide views and seclusion within nature.
