BHNP Field Research Center and Artist Residency

BHNP Field Research Center and Artist Residency

Atlanta, GA

The Blue Heron Nature Preserve is a natural haven in the City of Atlanta of over 30 acres of preserved nature and wildlife. Since 2016, the the Blue Heron has offered an artist-in-residence program, allowing local artists to immerse themselves within the preserve to inspire their work. This project is an expansion of their artist offerings, as well as an expansion of their educational programming. 3 small footprint artist lofts are scattered throughout the site, and a Field Research Center provides a hub of ecological education for the BHNP. The process involved numerous engagement workshops to find the overlaps of nature and art, as well as understand the important ecological restraints that needed to be preserved on the site. These workshops drove the design, and we are currently in the design stage.

Design done in collaboration with Joel Jassu.
