JR Farms

Darien, GA

JR Farms offers an opportunity for culture and nature to be celebrated and experienced, breaking down the myths and stigmas surrounding the black community connection to nature. The activity allows a breath to be had, the user can then take time to themselves, tap into their being, connect back to nature, and learn first hand from the experience on the farm.

Ecological Hospitality: Gullah-Geechee Immersion

The eco-system, comprised of farmland and marshland acres of meadows and marshlands. This site provides an interesting place to immerse in a cultural experience supported by nature as its background. Providing a holistic experience for all users, derived from the culture of the gullah-geechee people. Basic hospitality as described by one of the residents is as simple as the offering of a drink, providing a space under a tree to rest in the afternoon and catch a breeze. Taking the time to just do nothing and feel everything around you.

JR Farms spans approximately 130 acres with 30 acres dedicated to community-focused nature lodging, including 15 cabins, “do-nothing” spaces, a small store to sell Gullah-Geechee related goods, a repurposed barn for concerts, events, and community dinners, and a mile-long nature walk that meanders around the property.
